WSIB Counselling
Compassionate Mental Health Support After a Workplace Injury
A workplace injury doesn’t always leave visible scars.
Sometimes it’s a traumatic incident. Sometimes it’s months or years of overwhelming stress. Sometimes the emotional impact of a physical injury lingers long after your body has begun to heal.
If work has affected your mental health, you don’t have to carry it alone.
At Spacious Mind Counselling in Guelph, we provide psychotherapy for individuals with approved Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims. Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, burnout, or difficulty returning to work, our therapists provide a safe, supportive space to help you make sense of what you’ve experienced and move toward recovery.
With an approved WSIB claim, your counselling is often fully funded, meaning there is typically no out-of-pocket cost for your therapy.

What Does WSIB Cover?
Depending on your approved claim, WSIB may fund psychotherapy when mental health treatment is considered part of your recovery.
This may include:
- Psychological injuries resulting from traumatic workplace events
- Mental health conditions following physical workplace injuries
- Ongoing treatment for approved psychological claims
- Therapy supporting a safe and sustainable return to work
Coverage is determined by WSIB based on your individual claim. If you’re unsure about your approval status, we can help you understand what questions to ask your Case Manager.
Our Approach to Therapy
At Spacious Mind Counselling, we believe therapy is about more than symptom reduction.
Recovery isn’t simply about “getting back to normal.” It’s about making sense of what happened, reconnecting with yourself, rebuilding confidence, and finding a way forward that feels sustainable.
Our therapists take the time to understand your unique story, your relationships, your strengths, and the impact your workplace experiences have had on your life.
Rather than following a rigid formula, we tailor therapy to each person using approaches such as:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Narrative Therapy
- Trauma-informed psychotherapy
- Mindfulness-based approaches
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Psychodynamic and insight-oriented therapy when appropriate
Because every person heals differently, every treatment plan is individualized.

We Take Care of the Paperwork
Navigating insurance systems can feel overwhelming when you’re already struggling.
We’ll communicate with WSIB when required, complete the necessary clinical documentation, and help make the administrative process as straightforward as possible.
Care That Feels Human
Many people tell us they’re looking for more than coping strategies. They want someone who genuinely listens, someone who doesn’t rush them, and someone who helps them understand not only what’s happening today, but also why they’re feeling the way they do. That’s the kind of therapy we provide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
You’ll generally need an approved WSIB claim that authorizes psychological treatment. If you’re unsure whether this has been approved, we can help you understand what information you’ll need before starting.
Is therapy covered?
When mental health treatment has been authorized through your WSIB claim, counselling is generally funded directly through WSIB.
Can I choose my therapist?
Absolutely. We believe the relationship between therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy. We’ll do our best to match you with someone who feels like the right fit.
Do you offer virtual counselling?
Yes. We provide secure online therapy across Ontario, as well as in-person appointments at our Guelph office.
How many sessions will I receive?
The number of sessions depends on your individual circumstances and your approved treatment plan. Your therapist will regularly review your progress with you.
What if I don’t think I qualify?
You’re still welcome to contact us. Even if your situation falls outside WSIB coverage, we can discuss your options and help connect you with appropriate services.
You Don’t Need to Navigate Recovery Alone
A workplace injury can affect your confidence, your relationships, your sleep, your sense of safety, and even your identity.
Healing takes time, but you don’t have to do it by yourself. Whether you’ve recently experienced a workplace injury or have been struggling for some time, we’re here to help you take the next step toward recovery.
